To concretise the desire of the Brussels-Capital Region to enhance the academic and international attractiveness of Brussels, while meeting the needs of the people of Brussels, perspective.brussels has drawn up an Urban Development Masterplan. This plan is necessary to govern the transformation of the former barracks at Ixelles into a new Brussels district, which is simultaneously an urban and university community, open, international, innovative, diverse, sustainable and convivial.
The Urban Development Corporation is coordinating the operational implementation of the site’s redevelopment and is the contracting authority for the conversion of the riding school, which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The latter is also co-funding the creation by ULB and VUB of an innovative inter-university sustainable development cluster on the site.
