See U, the temporary occupation of Usquare.brussels initiated by the Urban Development Corporation (SAU) in 2019, has been selected by the public in the ‘Public Initiative 2019’ category of the Visit.brussels Awards.
For more than 10 years now, the Visit.brussels Awards ceremony has honoured projects that have enhanced the prestige of Brussels, both nationally and internationally. In each of the competition’s nine categories, different initiatives which are helping to improve the quality of visitors’ experience are voted on by the public. The three projects nominated by the public in each category are then submitted to a panel of professionals from the Brussels tourism industry.
See U brings together a community of more than 100 project leaders who are breathing new life into the former Fritz Toussaint barracks in Ixelles every day as part of the site’s redevelopment, which is being managed by the SAU under the name of Usquare.brussels. This friendly place is open to the surrounding neighbourhood and has attracted widespread media coverage, including in other countries: all points in its favour for winning over the professional panel. It features in the ‘Public Initiative 2019’ category alongside ‘Bike Experience’ and ‘150 years of the Tram in Brussels’.
The announcement of the winners, scheduled for April 2, 2020, has been postponed due to measures against the Covid-19 coronavirus.
