On Monday 20 January, Beliris(*) began soil remediation work on part of the site of the former barracks, near the Fritz Toussaint entrance, as part of the Usquare.brussels conversion project overseen by the Urban Development Corporation (SAU).
The work, made necessary by the presence of old oil tanks above and below ground, should take less than three months. It will involve cleaning and removing the tanks, taking away the polluted soil and backfilling with clean soil.
The partial demolition of Block P will also be necessary in order to remediate the underlying soil.
