The regional expertise centre is the initiator of Brussels’ regional development strategy, and is responsible for drawing up the master plan for the site where Usquare will be created. offers a wealth of expertise in terms of knowledge and territorial development, statistics and socio-economic analysis, support for the school sector and architectural quality. Thanks to that broad expertise, produces cross-cutting analyses and strategies going beyond merely sectoral approaches. To date, the institution employs about 150 people.

Through its rigorous and relevant analyses, nourishes public authorities’ reflections as well as public debate.

As a study and research centre, envisions the city of tomorrow and devises strategies for its development, such as the Regional Sustainable Development Plan. works in consultation with the Urban Development Corporation (SAU-MSI), the public operator responsible for the operational implementation of the development plans in the strategic zones defined by the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region.
