The Urban Development Corporation (SAU-MSI.brussels) has been given the task by the Government of Brussels Capital to build the future integrated care centre for drug users in very precarious situations, near the canal. This project, funded by safe.brussels, will, once completed, be managed by the non-profit organisation Transit.
This new construction covers approximately 5,000 m², including just over 4,000 m² for the Integrated Centre and nearly 1,000 m² for the Port of Brussels. It will be build opposite Tour et Taxis, next to the headquarters of the Port of Brussels.
The construction of the future Integrated Centre represents, on the one hand, a major achievement of the Global Security and Prevention Plan; and, on the other hand, a further implementation of the new urban balance desired for the canal territory since it will optimize the use of the available land, improve the quality of public spaces and strengthen the diversity of functions. The main objective of the Brussels-Capital Region, with the establishment of this new building, is to guarantee access to health care for all and to fight against inequalities.
The SAU- MSI acts as delegated contract authority for the entire project and works in close consultation with the non-profit organisation Transit, safe.brussels, which is financing the project, the Port of Brussels, the Regional Land Management Agency and the team of the Bouwmeester Maître Architecte.
A little history:
- In April 2020, the SAU-MSI published a European public procurement notice to appoint the multidisciplinary team responsible for designing and monitoring the construction site of this future centre.
- In October 2021, the consortium of architectural firms Bogdan & Van Broeck – BC architects & Studies won the public contract for the design of the future Integrated Centre.
- In 2021 and 2022, several public meetings were held to explain the project to local residents and other partners in the district.
- In December 2023, the building application was submitted to URBAN.brussels
