The new concert hall energising Brussels’ alternative music scene
An iconic venue on Belgium’s underground music scene for nearly 30 years, Magasin 4 welcomed its audience on 19 September 2025 for the very first time in its brand-new hall, located at the corner of Avenue du Port and Rue de l’Entrepôt, just a stone’s throw from the Tour & Taxis site. With a surface area of 1,000 m², the foundation stone had been laid in April 2024.
This project holds particular significance for the SAU, as it marks its first delegated project management assignment for a Brussels municipality. It is the result of close collaboration between the City of Brussels, the Brussels-Capital Region and the Urban Development Corporation (SAU).
The architecture firm CENTRAL designed a building based on a dual concrete structure framing a large central concert hall. This “skeleton” allows for flexible layouts and potential future extensions. The 500-capacity concert hall is designed to deliver high-quality acoustics while maintaining an intimate atmosphere. With a ceiling height of over 7 metres, the space offers great versatility. A panoramic terrace and a rooftop garden provide additional outdoor areas suitable for open-air events.

The building layout clearly separates public and private areas. The right wing is dedicated to the public, while the left wing is reserved for artists and the Magasin 4 team.
The architecture emphasises sustainability and circular economy principles (reused materials for sanitary facilities, tiling, and rammed earth masonry). Designed from the outset to be flexible and adaptable, the building can evolve according to future needs.

In 2018, due to urban redevelopment projects, the venue had to close its doors. After a period without a permanent location, Magasin 4 found a temporary home in 2024 in Anderlecht, on Rue de la Petite Île.
